My daughters and I had a yard sale this past weekend and while it was a lot of work it was also a lot of fun and a good learning experience for all of us.
On the last day a lady came up to our sale looking for baby girl clothing and told me she was pregnant with her first baby and she was due in January. I didn't have much of my baby stuff out because I usually consign or save the good stuff, and donate the more "used" items. But what I did have, I found for her and told her she could just have it all for free. She was blessed and I was blessed. I could tell she needed those items and I would have donated them anyway if they didn't sell.
After she left I thought of a wonderful idea. How fun would it be to gather up as many unwanted things as we could find from friends, family, and our own closets and hold a yard sale where everything was FREE?!
It could be done a number of ways. We could surprise our customers at check out when they ask for their total or when they hold up an item and say "how much for this?" you could say "oh that old thing, you can just have it". I realize it would be quite a bit of work but the rewards would be much greater than the effort. Most yard sale shoppers are in need of inexpensive items and some don't have much money at all. What a blessing it would be to arrive at a sale and find out all of the items you've selected are yours to take home for absolutely nothing!
One day my girls and I will be trying this out.
